Venice's New Visitor Tax

If you plan on visiting Italy next year, a change is on the horizon.   Starting in Spring 2024, Venice will be implementing a new visitor tax for day-trippers traveling into the city during peak times to help battle over tourism.  It will start as a 30-day experiment.

Initially, this tax will only apply to those visiting the historic district of Old Venice, explicitly targeting individuals who do not spend the night in the city, including cruise guests. The tax collection system will be digitalized, allowing visitors to pay the fee of 5 euros using an online platform.
