Southwest Airlines to End Its Open Seating Policy
One thing Southwest Airlines is widely known for is its open seating policy. After 57 years, it will be ending this policy. Southwest says this is due to changes in customer preferences. Most people prefer to pick their seats. Research has shown when a person elects to stop flying Southwest and move to a competitor, the number one reason for the change was the open seating policy. The new process of assigning seats will begin in 2025 but no specific date has been noted at this time.
Southwest will also begin offering a limited number of red-eye flights from the west to east coast. These flights are available for booking and the first one will land in February 2025.
