Quintana Roo Proposes New $5 Tax for Cruise Ship Passengers

Quintana Roo, a Mexican state known for its stunning beaches, popular tourist destinations like Cancun and Tulum, and home to Mexico's two largest cruise ports - Cozumel and Costa Maya is considering implementing a new tax for cruise ship passengers. The proposal suggests a $5 per person tax, which, if approved, would come into effect on January 1, 2025.

This potential tax aims to contribute to the state's infrastructure development and support the response to natural disasters such as hurricanes. The plan is for passengers to pay the fee as part of their cruise fare.
